To my fellow LRIW members and railroad industry women,
It is a great privilege and honor to serve as President of the League of Railway Industry Women (LRIW). I am excited to work with my fellow board members and am grateful to my predecessors who have served LRIW in this capacity.
Helping women in rail succeed is the LRIW tagline, but it’s also a challenge to our organization and one I am eager to take on. I believe we must face our challenges directly, with dedication, and together with our combined knowledge, experience, and strength.
When I look back over the past few years, I can see that we have made progress and I hope to build upon the progress with the help of our members. In 2015, LRIW decreased the size of our board to create an organization that is less top heavy and more member driven. I am excited to roll out our new committee structure that will bring our member ideas and needs to the forefront of our organization.
While I have many goals, my main goals for this term are the following:
- Improve communication throughout the organization and our industry through newsletters, press releases, and hosting events.
- Grow and nurture our membership base
- Promote companies and organizations that value women in our industry
- Promote women in our industry and highlight their value to our industry
Together, I believe we can influence the future of the League of Railway Industry Women and improve the diversity of the rail industry. We want women to know they are a welcome addition to this industry and LRIW is a place they can come for support.
As a volunteer organization, we are only as strong as the involvement of our members. Thank you for all that you do to contribute to LRIW and the future of women in the rail industry. Stay tuned for many opportunities to be involved at LRIW. Together, we can help women in rail succeed.
With Kindest Personal Regards,
2016/17 LRIW President
