Volunteers drive the agenda of the League of Railway Industry Women and we need your time and talents to continue our efforts to promote women in rail. In addition, you can to grow your own skill set by broadening your knowledge outside of your area of expertise and working by joining one of the LRIW Volunteer Committees.
Below is a list of our committees, please choose one and get involved in promoting our industry and women in rail. Only with your support can we create the member-driven organization we strive to be. With each industry woman that volunteers, LRIW can paint a better and more diverse picture of how women are improving our industry and encourage more women to join our ranks in rail.
Each committee will schedule a monthly conference call to discuss committee goals and action items for the coming month. A typical time commitment is 2 – 3 hours a month. The length of commitment is a minimum of one year. It is strongly suggested, though not required, that committee members attend the LRIW Annual Conference for an in person committee meeting with your board chair.
- Membership Committee: The LRIW membership committee works with the the membership chair to promote LRIW to potential new members (individual and corporate) and helps retain current members. They will assist in the dues renewal process and develop materials / content to promote LRIW and encourage new members to join.
- Public Relations & Outreach Committee: The PRO committee works with the PRO chair to promote LRIW on our website, developing press releases, quarterly newsletters and social media platforms. This committee works closely with other committees to highlight and promote LRIW activities and members.
- Events Committee: The events committee is responsible for organizing LRIW events. Currently, the main LRIW events are the Annual Conference, a networking reception before Railroad Day on Capitol Hill, and small event during industry conferences. This committee determines events, goals for the event, and works with event sponsors. This committee is the main organizer for the LRIW Annual Conference and is responsible for managing the itinerary and logistics, and helping find conference speakers and locations for facility tours. The events committee works closely with the PR&O committee to ensure it’s being promoted to the membership and potential members.
- Awards Committee: The awards committee is responsible for overseeing the LRIW Outstanding Woman of the Year Award and LRIW Member of the Year. This includes working with our Outstanding Woman of the Year co-sponsor, Progressive Railroading on press releases and promoting the event industry wide with the PRO committee. This committee will also determine criteria for the nominees and the selection process. The committee will also solicit nominees for the Member of the Year Award from membership. The awards committee will also work with the events committee on the Outstanding Woman of the Year Award presentation at the General Opening Session of Railway Interchange 2017.
